Finally got round to buying (and starting) Spirit Tracks having missed it back on the DS. That just leaves Skyward Sword for mainline games in the series I've not yet played. It's not bad so far, still not a fan of the stylus controls and I can forsee some frustration with the Spirit Pipes but I like the interaction with Zelda. Boss encounters have been fun too.

Yeah, I've heard they were a divisive feature and I didn't really get on with the motion controls in Twilight Princess. I'd still like to give it a go for completions sake and I've heard so many good things about it's story. If/when I get an NX if it's available I'll give it a go or borrow a mates Wii/WiiU at some point perhaps.

I don't like playing Zelda games with the wiimote but SS is definitely a game worth it. It would have been better if there was the possibility of another controller, but on the other hand holding your sword/wiimote skyward is kinda epic, you probably won't have the same feeling with another controller.

I loved Spirit Tracks, especially because you can control Zelda! At first it's weird playing with the stylus but I wouldn't change it. The pipes did annoy me though!

Yeah, most would agree the DS Zelda games aren't the best of the series. Phantom Hourglass is my least favorite Zelda in general if you don't count the multiplayer ones, always thought Spirit Tracks was a bit better though. It shares many of PH's weaknesses but it has a much better soundtrack and the machines are a bit more unique.

@Britt I can certainly see what they were going for (especially after playing TP on Wii) but it's possibly a missed opportunity to have simply re-released it on VC rather than get a port company to remaster it in HD and offer an alternative control scheme alongside the Wiimote. Yeah, I'm liking Zelda having such a prominent role this time!

@Matthew I am liking the music, very good so far! Again I think I'd have enjoyed both DS ones more if there was also the option for traditional controls as an alternative but the new features seem alright. The Rocktite fight in the cave on the way to Snowfall Sanctuary was a little different having a chase boss, was almost like an old lightgun game!

Oops, I meant mechanics, not machines. Yeah, the controls are a major gripe for me. Like Skyward Sword, the DS games go all in with the controls and the whole game is based around them, but unlike Skyward Sword I didn't really enjoy the DS games' implementation of them.

Ha, well it does feature machines so the sentence still works. It's mechanics are different though, getting around the world in particular. They're alright, just when things get hectic you can sometimes hit the wrong thing by mistake whereas I always felt in full control in the other games. I wonder if the experiment with touch controls was in a way a precursor to getting into mobile gaming?..

...sort of a test for whether a single screen controlled touch based Zelda would work. I mean a slightly simplified version of these games could work on phones/tablets. Maybe at some point there'll be a third game in this line.

I guess it's possible that was the case, but I'm not sure, this was still 2009, before mobile gaming was a large market, and the 3DS was in development. I wouldn't be surprised if those games inspire a future mobile Zelda though.

You'd assume if Super Mario Run does well (as if it wouldn't!) they'll definitely consider LoZ next. It would be kinda cool to expand the audience if possible as it's not as big a series in terms of sales as Mario and Pokémon etc, also I'd be curious to see what they did with it. Now watch them do a Goron match 3 game instead...haha

Yeah, I imagine a mobile Zelda would probably be a spin-off. I just couldn't see Nintendo putting the effort in to make a full mobile Zelda. On one hand that's disappointing, but on the other I'd be perfectly fine with all those resources going towards the console games.

It depends, stuff like Ittle Dew and Oceanhorn that just released on PS4 are both fully fledged Zelda like games you can get on mobile/tablet so they could make it work and arguably the control style of PH/ST is even better suited to that platform then the above examples. Of course you could go a completely different route altogether, someone on here earlier interestingly posted about a...

...potential Zelda mobile game adopting the Square Enix 'Go' series style. Don't know if you've played any of those (I've got Hitman Go on Vita and Deus Ex Go on phone) but they're kind of a puzzle/board game spin-off that are very clever and addictive. Could work if each level was say the floor of a dungeon or something like the free DLC in Triforce Heroes.

That's an interesting idea, a good way to get people into the series as well.

Indeed, it's the idea with all these things eh. Sort of gateway game to try and tempt people over to the consoles for the 'proper' experience. Anything that can capture the essence of a series but handle it in a way that anyone can easily play it is interesting. Think it could be done for LoZ.

Beat the snow temple boss, Fraaz, Master of Icy Fire. Found it kinda though, that final phase where the speed has increased was quite hectic!

Already getting the sense it's not going to upset my top 5 LoZ games but similar to what Matt said I think it's an improvement on PH at the very least. Must admit I did get it more out of curiosity/completions sake just to play as many as possible. Did pick it up on the cheap so if I don't get on with it it's not the end of the world.
