File size for full game vs. trial version

I am considering buying this game, but I am concerned about the potential size of the full version when I download it. That being said, is the full version download a small file that unlocks the full game, or is it an entirely different file that is also large in size?

  • Demos are nice and all, I really miss demo discs so much. But this obviously isn't a problem with a physical version. It's absolutely criminal to force a digital only release on a console with one version not even large enough to hold the game. I'm sure that didn't help sales at all.

  • That being said, I believe the answer to your question is that the trial only downloads a small portion of the game, with the unlock containing the full game should you progress far enough in it and select that option. Full size is roughly 16 gigs. So if you have the 8 gig hard drive, you're outta luck with buying an external. Good job NoA!

  • That's what I needed to know. I have enough space to play the game, but the real problem is the internet connection I am using; it will take hours to download the full game. As unfortunate as it is that the game is 16 GB, I could always delete it and redownload it later on. Now, I am just weighting my options between this game or $50 in other titles. Thanks, Craig.

  • Yeah, I feel you on the internet connection there. That's why, despite being sad about the delay, having Square Enix is launching Final Fantasy XV without the need of a day one patch, which has sadly been so standard lately, so folks without internet can enjoy games right out of the box like the good old days.

  • Also check into Xenoblade X on Amazon, it's on sale at the moment if you're still checking other game options.

  • I should clarify that I have $50 in e-shop funds; buying a game from an online retailer is out of the question. Thankfully, if I get this game, it will download while the system is on standby mode. Again, I just need to make the decision to buy it or not now.

  • Gotcha. If you're truly desperate for a physical copy, I'd be cautious. It seems the petition advocating a physical release on cahnge.org, mysteriously got closed when it was JUST open last week. So either something fishy is going on, or NoA is just not being chill as usual. If not, I guess if you start the download now it could be ready by the weekend to start playing?

  • I wouldn't say I'm desperate at all; I could just use a new Wii U game to play, and I did enjoy the demo. I'm just trying to get the best bang for my buck with the credit. I'm not holding my breath for a physical release, but it WOULD be a bummer if the game was discounted after buying it. Besides that, I have nothing to really gripe about.

  • Because I have purchased this game, I will be closing this question for comments. Thanks to those who offered input.
