Zelda's Canon Moves

Today I will be discussing the moves I have studied on Zelda and will be mentioning the ones I think come from the Legend of Zelda. Unsurprisingly, most of her attacks resemble the magic abilities that Link have used in his adventures. Let's see where that goes! Please be patient while I post.

  • Dash Attack: Just as her Up Throw resembles her magic after Link dealt the finishing blow to Ganon, this attack resembles her magic used BEFORE the final blow to Ganon in Ocarina of Time. The only difference is the magic looks...smaller. And isn't a blast of some kind.

  • Nayru's Love: I absolutely love what this attack represents. The intangibility on it obviously comes from how the spell works in Ocarina of Time, but it's reflect properties remind me of the Mirror Shield, from various Zelda games.

  • Din's Fire: On the contrary, I loathe this attack. It doesn't resemble anything like the spell from Ocarina of Time. More or less it reminds me of the Fire Spell from Zelda II or the Fire Rod from A Link to the Past, but it doesn't have a hitbox as it's being controlled. This attack honestly takes merit away from Zelda's status as a mage if you ask me.

  • Farore's Wind: This attack's function as a recovery is a neat idea, and it's ability to go far makes sense. In Ocarina of Time it could be used in any dungeon, and dungeons can be...big. So it makes sense that this magic could travel far. It does not, however, have a windbox. Also...how Zelda can bend her fingers like that, I don't know.

  • Phantom Slash: What an odd thing to reference for her new Down Special, but this attack is a reference to how she could control Phantoms in Spirit Tracks. The main difference is that she's controlling it in more of a conjuring way: in Spirit Tracks, she was literally controlling it with her Spirit.

  • Light Arrow: The bow and arrow are from Twilight Princess, but the attack is from Ocarina of Time. It makes sense that this would be her ultimate attack, as it uses the most amount of magic in that game and is even given to you from Zelda. The light is a perfect demonstration of her power as the mortal reincarnation of the Goddess of Light, Hylia.

  • Side Taunt: This is the only taunt I can say I've found anything canon about, and weirdly enough, it's about the one special attack of hers that I'm not fond of. It resembles how Link charges Din's Fire in Ocarina of Time before using it, only Zelda doesn't look like she's about to fire a kamehameha like Link does.

  • Victory Pose 1: Zelda conjures weak magic and then prays. This references a LOT of things. Firstly, it represents how she prays to the Goddesses of Virtue (Din, Nayru and Farore) for protection or strength. It also resembles the Spell Spell (no that's really what it's called) from Zelda II.

  • Victory Pose 2: This animation is something Zelda did after the final battle with Ganon in Ocarina of Time. When explaining how bad she felt that she dragged Link into her issues, she stands in this pose. The only difference is she looks much more confident and less...guilty.

  • Things I did not mention: • Down Tilt • Forward Smash • Up Smash • Down Smash • Forward Throw • Back Throw • Up Taunt • Down Taunt • Victory Pose 3 As always, if there was something I may have missed or something you'd like to add, post away!

  • There are a few things that can be touched up on: if she were to feel like a summon mage, why not summon the statue she would control? Secondly, Only one statue from Twilight Princess has any kind of attack method to them...the ones with the giant hammer. Would she only summon that one?

  • Truth be told I kind of wanted to give her a spell from Zelda II as her Down Special, to give her four unique spells. Only one that would make sense though is the Thunder Spell, but a certain rodent already has a Down Special named Thunder. Then it occured to me: Neutral is Wisdom, Side is Power, Up is Courage and Final is Light...for her Down to be a Dark summoning completes the set. Weird...

  • It's the only other thing that makes sense. • Shield • Jump • Life • Fairy • Reflect • Fire • Spell • Thunder Those are the Zelda II spells.

  • Great analysis, again. You're better at it than Alax and Trailer Drake combined. Also, ironic how you mentioned Pikachu having Thunder and Robin in different contexts, when Robin also has Thunder XD

  • Thank you Sebek, and Robin's Thunder attack is his Neutral Special but you're right. I bet NO ONE can guess who's next.
