    You could also think of it as that they didn't have to do Splatfests at all. They couldn't keep making Splatfests forever, and Splatfests aren't necessary to play the game.

    It's just a natural part of console progression. Game progression, even. You don't see events for older Pokémon games now, do you? What about limited time events for like older Call of Duty games? Remember when everyone was sad about Nintendo shutting down Wii and DS wi-fi functions? It had to happen sometime.
