Maybe because in Gold/Silver/Heart Gold/Soul Silver, you fought RED. Red sends out Blastoise, Venusaur and Charizard, with Pikachu being his best. Most people's starters are the best if you fight them, plus none of the others are obtainable in Red/Blue/Green alone. So that Red is from Pokemon Yellow, making Pikachu having it look like Red! ...My fingers exploded.
