    I could understand the relief and the new feelings of possibly romance when Sheik reveals to be Zelda, on Link's side, and also on Zelda's side watching and interacting with the hero as someone else so he isn't bound to a strict peasant-princess relationship. They would also remember being kids when Link would sneak in just to have a laugh with her.

    but that timeline ends with Link going away forever. Zelda would expect her current timeline would disappear, but it doesn't; so she's left with a ruined kingdom to fix, yadda yadda, then Wind Waker happens :/ So she's lonely and depressed
