The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Well, it's a console Zelda, so I had to give in eventually. And I know these days everybody's into these open-world games where you can wander aimlessly and clog your inventory with whatever's lying around, but... that's NOT what I want to be doing when I pick up a Zelda game. I know I'm early on (mainly because I don't know where I'm supposed to go, if anywhere) but so far, I am not impressed...

  • I don't like open-worlds either but give the game a chance; can't fully enjoy it if you're only at the very beginning. This is nothing. Can't possibly have any legit arguments, at this point. The gameplay reminds me a lot of Darksiders II, on this matter. As long as it wasn't "hack 'n' slash", I was fine by it.

  • More of a bad feeling/impression of the kind of thing it's going for than an objective opinion. I'd be happy to be proven wrong, though.

  • ...of the Wild lost it's Zelda essence here and there while focusing on incorporating ideas from other popular genres and titles. I do like how they kept trying new things with Breath of the Wild, at least, though. To once again make poor Twilight Princess sound worse than I actually think it is, that beats just rehashing Ocarina of Time, even if it's not perfect.

  • Seems like recent Zeldas have had Nintendo repeatedly saying 'THIS is the one that'll break the old formula!' only for it to be the same old thing, often with a new twist, good or not. ...I kinda hoped they would never succeed in actually breaking the formula. Skyward Sword's worlds were a little too constrained and linear for my taste, but going TOO far the other direction would be no better...
