It's very likely that we're getting the ability to put more than 10 characters in our avatar names for the Switch. The evidence for this appeared as early as the Splatoon 2 trailer, where a character IDed as "Cuttlefresh" (11 characters) appeared in the trailer. This "Cuttlefresh" ID can easily be seen on the Splatoon tumblr post about Spectator Mode. So yeah, more room for unique names!

    Wow, Lief. I always assumed you were an archetypal Scandinavian or something, with the hair color to match. Now I realize... this slightly disappointed-looking Mii I've been associating with you does not resemble the true you at all! My expectations have been shattered. ...but I do see the Cloud resemblance.

    Will, I've honestly never been a Zelda person but somehow my mind is changing towards this game. Choice gameplay videos here and there are illustrating just how seamlessly you can combine different mechanics to solve puzzles and fight foes, and I've kind of been pulled in. I have a feeling I'll enjoy BotW, and not just because it's been getting 10's from the more fastidious reviewers.

    And here I thought Lief was a viking from Norway here to take back what is rightfully his! It's only starting to hit me how important this game is as we're 3 days from launch. Being in a rural area, I don't usually have to worry about consoles selling out, but I'll still show up at opening to snag myself a Switch. If not, well, the Wii U version will be fine.

    Yes. Turns out my Walmart had a midnight launch, so I just decided to stick around until then. They had 14 units and only 14 people showed up. Everything worked out perfectly.

    Honestly, I'm gonna wait for a price drop. $400 Canadian dollars is expensive, & that's not including a game or the price for online. Maybe there'll be a bundle with a pack in game in the future. And my Nintendo ID is jpux_peter_ .

    Will, that's so wonderful! I love it when supply exactly matches demand. It's like an economist's dream. Peter, that's completely understandable. I wish I had the resolve to wait that long, but I'll wait instead for the second shipment of Switches, just so I can guarantee that the devices I get are a bit more refined, with patches and firmware updates already in place. Also, was jpux_peter taken?

    No, it wasn't taken. I just added the extra underscore because I liked the way it looked. :P However, when I was playing an onlind game (Steel Diver Sub Wars), I did encounter someone with the same Mii name as me. I like to think of that person less of a stalker and more or a secret admirer.

    So, has it been clarified at this point what qualifies as an "online username"? That is, is it the account name or Nintendo ID that's treated as the handle that online players see?

    Your handle is separate from your username. Similar to how your Mii name is used instead of your NNID on Wii U. I know these things; I have a Swotch!

    So then, no "Cuttlefresh" or any other 11-character names for online play. A little disappointing, but it was fun to be hopeful. Granted, I never need more than 10 myself, but other players would have benefited from this.

    Mostafa, I just noticed something. Sorry I couldn't tell this earlier, but I was Miiverse banned. So, the player was IDd as Cuttlefresh, but you can't put caps in you Nintendo ID. So, it was either spelled in all lower case, or it had one less letter and someone misread it.

    Nah, I'm thinking that online names are still 10 characters (like Mii names) and that Cuttlefresh was something they could get away with for the trailer.
