Now that I can see which levels I finished with both bros... ... I thought I played through this world as Mario? I mean, it was necessary if I wanted to unlock Luigi in the first place?

    Did you use the secret pipe to bypass some levels the first time? Because using it doesn't count as beating the level.

    There's secret pipes in the levels of this game??? I've never heard about it, and I played through each level one by one.

    Worlds 1-2 and 4-2 both have orange pipes near the top of the level, that can be used to skip to the next world.

    I never found those. I never knew there were such! After checking through all the levels, it turned out that two or three levels from Special World 1 for whatever reason never registered. And I'm 100% sure I beat those as Mario normally.

    Maybe you used a p-wing or golden leaf? I don't believe beating a level with those counts as actually beating the level.

    I only used golden leaf in the last level in World 8. It still counted to me beating it like it normally would. Other than that, I never died enough times in other levels to get either of the items anywhere else. I quickly beat the three levels in the world, and unlocked the last level. It's still weird to me, though.
