how do i save?

i just got this game and i went through the first few cutscenes but when i tried to save i pushed every single button and didnt find a save button.. i assumed that the game automatically saved but it didnt and i had to go through the cutscenes.. so can someone tell me how to save before i make the same mistake?

    It doesn't auto save. You have to talk to a priest at church and choose to make a confession in order to save in Dragon Quest.
