AND HERE are the Japanese ads from MK64 all based on real companies. I will now showcase the ads close-up and tell what the ads are paroding. Sooooooooo… look in the comments to see them. (Note that Marioro and Koopa Air needed to be changed because I couldn’t fit the whole thing without it looking weird)

  • Here’s Yoshi 1: a parody of Mobil 1.

  • Here’s Nintendo: obviously a Nintendo self-advertisement. In the international versions of MK64 the Nintendo logo was red just like NOA’s, and in Japan the logo was blue which is the color of the logo in NOJ. I made the logo blue since all these ads are from the J. version.

  • Here’s 64: a parody of the 76 gas station. In MK64 this ad was only in Luigi Circuit and it was a ball instead of a billboard.

  • Now here’s Shot! the only ad that was left unchanged during localization. Even though it was unchanged it’s often thought to be a parody of the Shell gas station because Shell’s logo is a seashell and Shot’s logo is a Koopa shell. Also the Koopa shell has the same colors as Shell’s logo although you can’t really tell in MK64 unless you drive close enough to it.

  • I also made some other changes to the ads: for Toad Air I added a winged mushroom as a joke on Goodyear’s logo which is a winged shoe. And for the 64 ball in Luigi Circuit the ball was originally orange in MK64 just like 76’s, but several years ago 76 changed their ball/background from orange to red, so I did the same for 64.
