  • I used to be a Legend of Zelda fanboy, and Keaton caught my interest when I read about how they were based on kitsune in Japanese mythology. I read about kitsune and I was blown away by how amazing they sounded, and how rich their legends and history were. So much so I wanted to make a character like that. Kitsune are still a favorite of mine, but not as big now as it used to be.

  • While this guy was originally meant to be a Keaton, I found myself diverging so much from Zelda's lore and setting that I eventually decided to create him his own setting. While I still borrowed heavily from the Zelda universe and other fantasy RPGs, it was a stepping stone for me as I got the hang of creating a world and characters as a hobby.

  • As one of my earliest characters, I slapped on a bunch of traits that I believed would make him more interesting - to me. Half-demon mixed breed with lightning element powers, one of the few close combat heavy-armored fighters of his kind as others were more magical or stealthy, red and black colors, had seven tails out of nine, fought dragons, and was a reincarnation of a demon-king-or-something.

  • He was something colorful while I stumbled around with my imagination. I didn't create a full enough world yet, so I had to make a character that was more "special" to help spice things up while everything else was still dull and in progress. Naturally, future characters were simpler. And he was called "Dracore".

  • He doesn't have a strong or memorable personality. He always felt lacking in that area, like a silent protagonist, so he wasn't very expressive and seemed quite neutral. But despite that, it also made him patient and in control of himself, as he dealt with plenty of rude and crazy people in his adventures. I guess living for 700+ years does that to you.

  • My memory is foggy, but I'll try to share what I can recall. He and his people live hidden deep in forests, preferring to live away from civilization. While mainly keeping to themselves, they would take in and watch over other beast-like people in need, as their long lifespan and wisdom made them like guardians of the forests.

  • I would introduce others of his species but I can't really recall more than two. My memory is going to be a common problem when it comes to sharing details for this event, and very little was drawn or written down. I'll be introducing one character of various species as this goes on to keep it varied.

  • That actually sounds really cool. When you talk about characters I feel that my character making now is unoriginal ^^' My character right now is a decked out ranger who travels with a band of friends. He wields the element sword which harnesses the power of light, spirit, shadow, grass, fire, water, air, etc. I started with the elements from the Zelda amulets in ocarina of time then added more

  • elements. The original elements all make[zelda again] each have there own sword. When all those worthy of these swords died, they combined thier swords into the element sword. It can use any element combined or solo that exists. You have to know the element though.

  • I've babbled on long enough, but I thought you'd like the element sword. He used to face the big guys with a platinum sword tipped w/ diamond on the double-edges. But, I realized you can't win them all with pure skill.

  • There's more to making characters than trying to be original. Sometimes I get frustrated and worried when I found out one of mine has some similarities (even if it's just appearance) to another, as if I'm afraid people will claim I'm ripping off or being lazy. But it's normal to take inspiration from things, both knowingly and unknowingly. That's how art works.

  • The thing is, everything has already been done; what you need to focus on is drawing/writing in your own way, because nobody else can do that. Two people can tell a similar story very differently, or draw the same character very differently. That's why fanart of all skills is almost always appreciated, because each one is unique and has their heart put into it.

  • My guy's signature weapon was a claymore with a deep violet color. It channeled his lightning power pretty well. Are the elements in the blade chosen by the wielder of the sword? Does it have to be called out, or done silently and mentally? You can share more info about it with me, I'll listen.

  • And yeah, a lot of great battles are won by tactics and strategy and not just pure skill or strength. Those are the kind of fights people tend to like more when reading/watching them. It has more surprise and suspense behind it, which is why scenes where it shares what the character is planning to do almost always end up failing.

  • The character[I call him Samuel, the name I almost got when I was born] can choose all the elements mentally. And by using the element I don't just mean it changes its form it can control elements around the sword [created by it or just what''s around]. I love swords, the master sword, the monado, excalibur, the fire emblem swords. I love them so much. Claymores are always cool, a movie called

  • Ladyhawke has a guy chuck a claymore at a greedy, evil man with a solid pin. It's what made me like claymores. I like having a human character, I always liked the human struggle concept [like hawkeye in marvel or goku vs vegeta] You actually drew him a while back.

    Yeahs0
  • Yeah, I still remember drawing him for ya. Swords are so freaking hard for me to draw, even a simple knife is tough for me. Whatever, I've become more of a nerd that prefers MAAAAGIC now so it's not too much of a problem that gets in the way.

  • A ton of my earliest characters were non-humans, and it took me a while before I started making mostly humans - at least in my own original settings. A favorite kind of human struggle of mine is humans against giants, which is like making the top predators gain a new predator and having to adapt to such a massive threat. It's why I liked AoT so much because it was just what I was looking for.

  • I haven't seen many animes. Just pokemon and a bit of sao. Actually, I watched the Madoka Magica movies too. My friend is into AoT too, I hear from everybody that watches it that it's really good. I'd watch it, but my parents are pretty restrictive; especially with §ë×ц@| stuff, which is perfectly acceptable.

    Yeahs0
  • Yeah, I can understand restricting AoT, it does get gruesome, even in the first few episodes. But it also has that "Who will be gone next, when, and how?" that makes it so suspenseful, which is part of the appeal. But it's been so long I need to reread/watch it at this point. Hm, I'm not sure what I would recommend, I'm not too big on anime either. I watched plenty but not that much, really.
