  • Honestly, I'm still unsure if I was being 100% serious about her creation or had enough self-awareness that she's messed up as she is. But I'm slowly starting to appreciate her again, in a weird nostalgic way. I'm definitely considering re-using her and rewriting her in the future. Maybe even drawing her a few more times.

  • OH I REMEBER HER! I DREW HER!

  • Of you feel unsure about the character, you can make alterations. You have that right as the character creator. I find myself repurposing a lot of my old characters nowadays. I keep the concept of the character the same, but make the character better by improving the story or their personality and abilities. Ot course, you could also keep her the same Id you are happy with her as she is.

  • @ChibiMa: Yep, she's the one! That was a big surprise to me, but it turns out a few others like her as well which really confused me at first. It made me realize the shame is a personal problem and that it's not really that big of a deal. And through that, I started liking this weirdo again.

  • @Kellen: I've done that plenty of times as well. Sometimes one rewrites a character so much, the only similarity left is the name and/or appearance. By that point, it seems odd to call them the same character when you compare their old and new selves. Their connection you can really only feel as their creator, get what I mean?

  • In fact, months back I tossed a bunch of old and no longer used characters into a battle royale simulator with the champion being put into a major story and being redesigned and rewritten as necessary. Despite Shiara taking out the most people, she perished in an accident late into the game.

  • Anyway, in this case, since Shiara is so... unique, I think it would be best if I tried to keep as much of her original concept as possible - whether it's played straight or for comedy. I've forgotten most of her personality, so I can easily start from scratch from there.

  • Yeaj, I hear ya, like I've got this robot character, Magnus, who came from an old character I never used. Besides the fact that they're both robot mages they don't really have much in common, though to be fair the original didn't have much character anyways.

  • @Dragoness Huh, that's one thing I would probably explore and think about if I do rewrite her. I could either actually come up with a reason why she feels so strongly both ways about dragons, or try to keep it more consistent. I didn't really give a lot of depth like that for my older characters, they are the way they are because that's how I wanted them to be instead of creating backstory for it.

  • @Kellen: Exactly like that! Similar to redesigning and redrawing old characters, there's some fun and excitement in rewriting an old character - in both cases you're breathing new life into them using an improved skillset. Especially when rewriting a character with a weak personality and backstory in the first place. It's a kind of rebirth.

  • Is OCtober for your ocs, or can I share mine. She sounds interesting, my first oc was basically a repurposed gi joe character.

  • @Kaelanpuff Anyone can join in however they'd like for however long they'd like. I'll try to post one every few days for this entire month, but might stop it early if it gets in the way of other things. This is going to be a very busy month for me.

  • Okay, my ocs usually come in groups for some reason :/ How about you?

    Yeahs0
  • Usually I either come up with characters one at a time or as pairs. Those where I focus on as a pair tend to have personalities and traits that clash, rather than being similar to each other. I find it more fun and engaging like that, pushing each others' buttons or one learning from the others perspective. Brings out their best and worst sides.

  • I used to often create groups but I've noticed I have a harder time when it comes to having groups of 3 or more interact with each other while keeping things interesting and not having one lag behind or be too out of place. It's not yet a big problem for me, but I could definitely try working on it.
