Why there will probably only be Alolan forms of Kanto Pokémon: Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow in the Virtual Console. Since it's confirmed to be compatible with Sun and Moon, that'll be the main way to get the original versions in Sun and Moon.

  • I feel like there's going to be a way to switch forms at will. There is no way they would inconvenience players like that

  • I doubt that. They have evolved to fit the environment and basically are Pokémon on their own. I mean, if you really want a specific version of a Pokémon, you should trade/send them over. That's how it's always been with Pokémon. Switching forms would actually take away from the whole idea of Alolan forms.

  • Yeah but. How in the heck are you going to have an ice Ninetails if it has fire moves? I know for a fact that Drought Ninetails was a popular Pokémon in Gen 5. What then?

  • Ice Ninetales will not learn fire type moves. If you want a fire Nintales, you bring over a Nintetales from R/B/Y and you'll have a classic Ninetales. If you switch forms at will, only then you'll be getting Ice Ninetales with fire moves.
