  • No word searches for me lol. But you're right some of them were unique and well done and added something to the overall packaging. I'm still upset about the night I sat down to play the original pc SimCity and my maroon paper with all the cities and codes was gone! Now I legally buy the pc games I loved as a kid and the copy protection is still there, that's part of why they have to scan everything

  • You still need to sometimes look for word x on page y or what color something is lol. I buy from GOG mainly, they made a little application to search for codes for Starflight I remember there was a huge bunch of codes to look through. They put lots of goodies in with games usually, it's nice and drm free. I'll have to see if I have Ultima 4 installed, but now I want to play it on NES lol.

  • I was playing Ultima way back when they came out. I think I started with Ultima IV. I would take loot out of chests or boxes. I didn't know that the NPCs owned those items. I can't think of any other game that worked like that. It was so confusing not to get any XP fot killing monsters. GOG is a great site for getting those older PC games. I still own most of my old PC games. …

  • But, who has a floppy drive these days. Even if you can load the old games, it is hard to play them. There are sound and graphics issuse, and modern computers run so fast. DOSBox will only get you so far.

  • It may have been our 386 my bro played the Ultima games on but Im pretty certain it was our Commodore64 maybe Amiga500. I was like the only kid who had computers back in the day I swear. My brother still has them while I got the consoles. I do use dosbox though but I know what you mean about some games are coded to run at the speed of the computer so you have to use a patch etc.

  • The Ultima series was very innovative and most of that became standard in rpgs that followed. Hopefully I'll get some time in on the pc this weekend and see which ones I have ready to go lol. GOG is great, I have a lot of games from there. I remember my first purchase, Starflight 1+2 and Police Quest collection with the EGA version of the first one, which wasn't on the disc release. That was the

  • version I played and loved as a kid. I love how their games almost always come with lots of extras and no drm. I can legally purchase so many games I loved from when I was younger. I still have my old pc games too, boxed and complete, hint books too lol. And you can't run them on today's pcs, I tried years ago on an old laptop with a floppy drive. You need to use something like dosbox. GOG uses it

  • You are the 2nd Jeff on miiverse I know who is a Police Quest fan. Did you ever see my PQ2 draw? Im a huge sierra fan

  • to get old games running on modern computers. I never had a Commodore or Amiga and no one I knew did either. I wish though. We had a pc compatible computer with dos. Those were the days lol, all you needed really was 256k RAM to play pretty much anything. No hard drives, CD-ROMs or graphic cards. The games were great though, great enough for me to buy again as an adult lol.

  • You may be interested to know that Leisure Suit Larry 1 was ported to nes 2 years ago. I got my copy. I need to play through it again. Yeah c64 and amiga are the best. We had a 386 PC compatible as well but started with a Vic20

  • I'm a HUGE Sierra fan and love all the Quest games! I'll check tomorrow for your Police Quest drawing, I'm sure it's awesome! My gamepad battery is going now :( I didn't know about LSL on NES, that's awesome. I'll have to look for info on that. I played the original when I was in 6th grade I think lol, just played thru the VGA version not too long ago.

  • Don't get me started lol! Wait until I get over to your other post where you brought up a few of my favorite directors! I'll try to restrain myself from huge comments lol. My best friend Tony is the only one I can talk to about that stuff and that's because I got him into all those movies lol. And to stay on topic, I have Ultima IV-VI on my pc and GOG is having an EA sale this weekend, which has

    Yeahs1
  • I think all of the Ultima games 60% off, I think 85% if you buy every EA game in the promo. I might pick up a few or wait until their next big sale. They group the first 6 Ultima games into 2 sets, 1-3 and 4-6, after that each is a standalone title. I believe they're still giving IV away as a freebie when you create an account.

  • Lol right on Jeff. I remember as well VII where it went first person and was on cdrom. I think it was called underworld I have steam and I heard of gog but I just don't get around to gaming on my computer. Its actually had an overheated video card since january

  • I think Underworld is a side series, there's 2 games in it I believe. They're part of the sale too. I have Steam as well, and a big backlog there too,but gog has lots of classics that Steam doesn't have or that gog gets first and they run better. If you get your video card working and feel like some classic pc games gog is definitely worth a look! They have weekly sales & also big sales like Steam.
