    My mom has to get surgery for her shoulder later this month, and it will take more than a month to recover. She won't even be fully recovered by the holidays. My birthday is in November and I don't want to see the woman who made me miserable...

    My grandma had some surgery last summer and it took her months to recover, but she's fine now. It won't be any different with your mom. She's going to be fine, even if the recovery time is going to be a couple months. That's a lot better than her not getting surgery and letting it get worse, right?
