    Actually, it depends. If it's subjunctive, it would be "if it were..." But if it's indicative, it would be "if it was." If you're implying that there is a chance of its occurring, use "if it was." If you know for a fact it didn't occur but are making a hypothetical scenario, then you would use "if it were." Again, depends on what you mean :P

    I'm pretty sure it was hypothetical because it's not sure that he'd have missed the boost panel because he never missed it. So "if it were" is better in this case.
