    茨城県中部の小美玉市に所在する航空自衛隊百里基地は、関東で唯一戦闘航空団を所有する航空基地であり、太平洋側を中心に本土全般の防空の一翼を担っている。また別名「首都防空の要」と呼ばれており、彼我不明機(アンノウン)へのスクランブル対処等を実施、文字通り365日、24時間の態勢を堅持している。 ↑の絵は同基地にあるF-4EJ改の第302飛行隊のシンボルマークである。 写真の洋上塗装F-4は青森県三沢基地に展開する第3航空団第8飛行隊の機体がモチーフであり、百里基地とは関係がない。
