Mario Party: Star Rush

Oh my god, this game was amazing! If this is the level of quality of ALL the portable Mario Party games, maybe I should try out Island Tour! So many fun modes, quick leveling system, and Amiibo compatibility that doesn't need to rewrite the Amiibo's data? 9/10, no question! All it needs now is online compatibility and a classic Mario Party mode. Y'know. Before they were in a car.

But using the Amiibo, you kind of are playingas that character. The game will start with them leading the party, the Toad is just a party member, and Amiibo party members can't be taken, so it's like you are them. The only downside is that they use up a space in your party, but since they come with a special dice block depending on which one, it's worth having a Toad as a constant party member.

It is weird though. It's "Mario Party" but it's possible to not even see Mario in the first game.

So the amiibos are required to start or else I'll just have to find the character on the board? Kinda odd that they lock that to amiibos instead of being an unlockable character or something, then again they want to sell amiibos :P I did buy the Waluigi amiibo the other day(He's my favorite to play as in the spinoffs), sadly I couldn't find Daisy, there was only 1 Waluigi amiibo in the store.

Oh, I forgot! If you don't have Amiibo, you can do the balloon mode, whatever it's called. It's like classic Mario Party, but smaller and more infuriating, but at least you don't have to be Toad!

Thanks for the information, I'll definitely try this game out, but not for full price, I always play the MP games in short bursts. Hopefully it'll be better than 7, that was the last one I played(It wasn't the worst, but it wasn't exactly amazing either). Speaking of the old games they should really add MP3 to the virtual console, hopefully the Nintendo Switch gets it. I did buy 2 on the Wii VC.

Well, they lock some characters to Amiibo. You can't get Rosalina or Toad unless you play as their Amiibo, and it was probably a coincidence since I didn't play very long before using Amiibos, but DK and Diddy didn't appear until after I used their Amiibos. I got really lucky with my Amiibos though. I went to GameStop and they had all 7 of the new MP ones, plus Pit and Robin, so that was cool!

We don't even have Gamestop anymore here in Puerto Rico, which is pretty bad because most stores like Best Buy or Walmart have a very limited selection of Nintendo stuff in general + I don't get the legendary event pokemon like Hoopa & Volcanion, since they're Gamestop exclusive. Waluigi is technically my first amiibo, I did buy Captain Falcon on Amazon, it should arrive sometime this week.

Well, I highly recommend this game, personally. I collect Amiibo for games I like, so it isn't a problem for me. I will say this, though: Unless you really like Boo (or things that slightly glow in the dark), don't get the Boo Amiibo. You can only play as him in one mode, in which he has a dice block that isn't the most useful, and the other mode he's used in, I don't even know what he did.

Oh, you live in Puerto Rico? Cool! My friend lives there sometimes in the year! Also, if 7 was the last MP you played, try 10. You may not be able to do Amiibo Party, but it feels so good to crush everyone as Bowser!

I'm definitely only buying the ones I like. I'm being extra careful with amiibos because I can easily go overboard buying them all. I'm currently interested in: Chibi-Robo, Shovel Knight, Ryu, Shulk, Mega Man, Kirby, Meta Knight, Wolf Link, Diddy Kong(The one with the barrel), Fox, Falco, Wolf(If they make him), Bayonetta & Cloud(When they make them, Bayo was being worked on awhile back).

I don't own a Wii U, and with the Switch right around the corner I'm skipping it :P I was pretty disappointed with the Wii in general, it became my Virtual Console machine, so after looking at the Wii U, I just didn't bother. As for amiibo, I just want to collect them, most of the 3DS games I own don't have amiibo support & the ones that do don't give important bonuses.

Forgot to add Peach & Daisy to my list of amiibos, but yeah as you can see just in that list that's a lot of $$$ for the amiibos & if they ever make a Majora's Mask Skull Kid, I'm definitely buying it(MM is my favorite 3D Zelda) & I was hoping Pauline gets one, I'm surprised she hasn't appeared in Mario Party or Kart yet.

By the way, I checked on gamefaqs on the cheats selection for this game & apparently you can unlock Toadette, Rosalina, Donkey Kong & Diddy Kong simply by reaching a certain level in this game. Apparently you level up by playing on any board, didn't even know that was a thing. I guess it's more like a progress bar instead of an RPG level up :P

Yeah. 13 levels, each unlocking a new mode or something. But when I said you can't get Rosie without her Amiibo, I meant in Toad Scramble. In the modes where you can choose your character, you can play as her through unlock, but in Toad Scramble I haven't seen her, but that might just be because I always use her Amiibo...

Also, that mode you mentioned where you constantly play 3 minigames, at least for me, is the best mode in the game. It's like Mario Kart with Minigames. You only play 3 games every round, but they'll be different each time, and there's multiple levels to each game. Every coin you collect moves you forward on space and it's a race to the finish!

Island Tour is less fun! There are 80 minigames but a ton of them get boring FAST!!! Even though Star Rush have 53, there still better! But there are goods to it like the boards because they all have different objectives! Also there is a bowser tower mode where you climb up 90 floors playing minigames! So I give it a 6.5/10 because there is stuff it does wrong and stuff it does right!

There are WAAAYYY LESS MODES!!!!! Because island tour has 4 modes and 1 minigame mode. Some of the modes are fun but others are okay! But Star Rushes modes are WAY BETTER then island tours! But yeah, you should still get the game if you want because this is just my opinion! ;)

I stand corrected. You actually can get Rosalina into your party without her Amiibo.

Ok thanks it's nice to get a confirmation :P and yeah I'll definitely try the 3 minigame mode(Admittedly I'm more fond of the standard Mario Party rules/boards, but I'll definitely give it a try, who knows maybe I'll like it).

I played it with download play at school today against my friends and everyone loved it! Even the guy who said he didn't really like Mario Party!
