    It took me 20+ tries to get him. I've been told you can't befriend him on the first real world day you battle him. I'm not sure if that's true or not, though. I also heard that the more you heal with items, the less likely he is to befriend you, as well as your Yokai fainting. Beating him in fewer terns is supposed to up the chances.
