『まだ会ったことのない友達のために……』こんなに頑張れるのはどうしてだろう。ううん、きみとはあったことあるよねポーラ。僕の夢に出てきてくれたじゃない。正直に言うと、僕は自分のガッツにビックリしてたんだ。だって、ひとりでUFOとだって戦えたんだから! トンチキさんが教えてくれた通り、グレートフルテッドの谷にはオンボロの山小屋があった。だけど、そこにポーラがいることはわかっているのに、小屋は崖の下にあって、僕は降りられなかったんだ。こんなに悔しい思いをしたのははじめてだった。野球の大事な試合に負けたときだって、こんなにつらくはなかったさ……。
