    ridiculous claims like I was lying to cover for you or something. In honesty, I think you both got upset over something that could have been cleared up easily. It seems like you pushed each other away when it wasn't necessary at all.

    You both have had terrible experiences that cause you to make negative assumptions now, even when there's nothing to actually get upset about. Neither of you are bad people. But again, it's not something that can be "fixed" easily, and I don't have the training or education to do so. It makes me upset knowing you're miserable and that I can't do anything about it.

    That's because there were three things you said that could have been taken negatively. I am extremely careful with how I word things because I've had experience with people who are easily offended. I wouldn't have used the word "triggered" because I already knew its meaning. And he wasn't aggressive about it, he just said to please not use it unless you have the condition.

    Three times seems like a lot, but he wasn't distorting anything miniscule to an extreme amount. I don't think he would have backed down so easily if he was really out to attack you. Again, having different preferences is not the equivilant of persecution. Just as a side note, there are plenty of people of my orientation who are treated badly by people of his, and vice-versa.

    Having that attitude about it is what's preventing you from improving. Saying it's hopeless is only going to make things worse. There are things you need to improve on, but you also need to accept that it's okay that some of your opinions/preferences are different from the majority.

    Things like this, especially with such deeply-rooted issues, have no quick fix. Unfortunately, there's no immediate "cure", but that doesn't make it impossible to recover. It's like with drawing. You have to work on improving over time. Yes, it's difficult, but you'll never improve if you give up.

    He thought you were saying that you liked kids in a way that is very bad, and he understandably got angry about it. He got upset because he didn't know that this was completely incorrect. He would have reacted the same way no matter who said it. It was never personal.

    Someone having a different opinion than you doesn't mean they automatically hate you, no matter how extreme the difference is. This assuming that people are out to get you is extremely self-destructive and seriously needs to stop. You're telling yourself these things that aren't true and it has caused you nothing but unnecessary pain.

    But you're NOT similar to those people, and he didn't know that before, but now he's been made aware of it. There's no reason for hate. There's no magic cure, but it is something that can be changed over time, but you need to put forth the effort to improve instead of giving up just because it can't be fixed immediately.
