Super Mario Maker

Sometimes I wish there was a "patch" function in the game where you could update a course without deleting and reuploading it. Some of my old courses could use some slight adjustment, but it'd be a hassle to delete and reupload them...

  • I've been saying this for ages! Mario Maker needs a Version Control System like GitHub has with Git.

  • I can see one issue that might arise with this however: Player statistics of the course, such as the WR time, clear rate, etc. would have to be reset since the course might be made easier, harder, longer, etc.

  • All I've got to say is this Mike B.: If you're really concerned about giving your players the best experience possible, then it shouldn't be a 'hassle' to restructure and re-upload. You should be excited and feel accomplished that your not being lazy. I mean, 'real' games have 'updates' often, right?

  • The problem I see with that: When I mean "slight" adjustment, I usually mean 2-4 small changes. It seems annoying to have to destroy that level's statistics for such small changes. Though I guess the statistics aren't all that important. I am definitely reworking "Snakeblock Stronghold" sometime soon, and also "FFF", but the walljump one will be small changes mostly.

  • No, statistics are important. And it's not just statistics you're destroying when you delete levels, but also any comments and drawings people have left, and world records people have set. I'd have so many more world records listed on the bookmark site if it weren't for people going and deleting courses I had records on...

  • Who cares about world records, dude? Like I've said previously... the game's not supposed to be a competition like that IMO. I like to play courses for the fun of it I guess... not to see how many 'world records' i have. I generally find that people who are really competitive and actively seek recognition by having 'more' or 'better' than others are kind of... well... lame.

  • I mean jeez, dude. I really don't give a hoot about any of that superficial garbage. I just had an idea for a complete 'Mario game' I thought might 'give' people enjoyment. Make them laugh. Make them sit at the edge of their seat and clutch the gamepad not out of rage... but because the game is giving them a fun, fair, challenging experience. I wouldn't mind having the stars...

  • ...only because I could use the upload space for 'Mario 3.5' when i'm finally ready to start it. I'm not getting money out of it. I'm not caring if I get millions of followers. I'm caring about shedding blood sweat and tears to make something people can enjoy. 'Nuff said...

  • Honestly, I don't think there's a "right" or "wrong" way to play the game. Competing for WRs is fine and so is not doing so. I just am not sure if going for top quality is more important than keeping level statistics. I usually go for top quality, but have very few courses because of that.

  • Quality is everything.

  • 'sighs' Mike B.... Wow.... Ok... i'm done on this post. You all know my opinion on the matter

  • I'd say adhering to the principle of non-deletion is the mark of a quality maker. It shows a respect for history.
