Minecraft: Wii U Edition

Ok, so I just discovered that my Wii U is out of memory, and my Minecraft will not save any of my big builds like custom biomes. I am getting an external Hard Drive but I need to know if I can just leave an application on the Hard Drive and use it like a disk. Does any one know if I can do that? Comment if I can.
