  • Now, look at the first part of Chocolate City III. Simple setup once again; it's just giant enemies sitting on the castle tops. But...

  • It's setup the same way as it was in Castle City IV; only difference is the level theme.

  • But wait, there's more. Now, look at this spot. This spot appears in Piranha Castle as shown in this screenshot. But, this exact same spot also shows up in Piranha City III & Marioville with the only difference, again, being the level theme.

  • Okay, on to the next issue...the repetitiveness of the rooms and obstacles. Now, I'll go through a room and see an obstacle(s). Now, imagine that same obstacle(s) being in the same room with little variation. Yeah, that's a problem. I understand it's that way so the player is not thrown off by another obstacle that shows up from nowhere. And it only seems to be an issue in levels with autoscroll.

  • But, it's still noticeable. And oh yeah...levels with autoscroll. Yeah, seeing the same obstacle(s) over and over gets a bit boring. You want to see something new, but the room hardly changes. I know it's not the case for all of your levels with autoscroll, but when the autoscroll is slow, it feels tiring seeing the same thing over and over.

  • I think the issue mainly shows up in the Mario Kart Airship series. Imagine a few still frames of a film reel. Now, imagine those frames looping over and over with only slight edits. Yeah, that's how I feel about the obstacle(s) in each room in each level in the series. I think this screenshot might help explain what I mean.

  • I think the worst case is in Bowser's Neighborhood X. You got a second part at the end, but you have a slow first part to get through. And both rooms in the first part have the same obstacle(s), but with no variation.

  • Phew, well that felt like a long rant. To summarize my points: Some rooms in some levels feel repetitive with the same obstcles present throughout the whole room. Some assets and rooms from some levels feel reused in other levels. And the levels with autoscroll tend to suffer from slow speeds and having the same obstacles with little to no variation in each room.

  • Don't worry, you seem to be straying far away from those issues in Frozen Fish. Yeah some obstacles still feel repetitive as in they show up constantly in each room...at least for the first part. But, each level feels completely fresh and the second parts are a blast to get through. And I see potential in this series growing. Maybe with more size variation in the platforms it can get interesting.

  • Well, that's all I have to get off of my chest. Again, those issues may not seem like much. But, once you notice them, you can't help but notice them anyway.
