Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U

Oh. That's why I stopped playing the Wii U version. The 3DS controls are the only controls I'm decent with in Smash... WHY DID THEY LOCK IT TO ONE MODE. I can't get over the controls for the Gamepad, which is the only method I have to play it. I can understand online play, but it should totally be able to handle all the other single player modes.
