    What you see there is the Tanooki Suit. You can use it to transform into a statue, and not take damage for a short time. The Raccoon Suit let's you fly and whip enemies.

    What Elden said. The Tanooki Suit allows you to hit things with your tail and fly, just like Racoon Mario can, but the Tanooki Suit also allows you to transform into a statue by pressing Down and B at the same time. As a statue, you can't be hurt, and if used in the air, you can stomp and defeat most enemies, including some that are normally difficult or otherwise impossible to defeat.
