Bertha is Today's Client! Let's walk through the process of making her a wonder of woven wicker! "Ooh, that sounds fancy! I don't know if I have enough baskets for that though. I should start making more …"

'Ugh. Tiger, why do we have to work today?' We can't just skip work because of the announcement … 'But what if there's a new Animal Crossing game!?' A … what? 'Forget I said that.' "You're talking about the Switch? Well … baskets are very similar, aren't they? They're, ah … made to portable, but work really well around the house!" … "And they … look good?" 'We should have checked on Claude …'

"Okay, maybe baskets aren't as exciting as a new piece of technology, but they're still … interesting? I'm sure I can find a lot to say about them! I-I'm just a little nervous." There's no pressure, Roberta. You don't have to impress … "I'm not boring! I'm really not!" I didn't say you were. 'I was thinking it …' Lottie, please.

You're a student? "Yeah, first year at Capital. I still haven't settled on a major yet." Okay … "Did you that … that baskets have been around pretty much since the beginning of agriculture? Yeah. You can't find much evidence of them because they … well, rot. B-but they've been developed independently all over the world!" Okay. But that means we don't know much about the history their development …

"Yeah, I … guess you're right. There weren't many major innovations. Handles? Someone had to invent handles, right?" You don't really have to … "Ah! But they're really important for carrying and storing stuff! I mean, they were, in the West. Before canvas bags, cheap aluminum … But they're still an important symbol! Of … c-carrying stuff! And plants!" Um …

"Yeah, because they can be made out of any course plant material! Reeds, tree bark, narrow leaves, sheet metal, pipe cleaners … Ah, not that those are plants! But you know, anything! Hah! Anything at all! Not cloth, though. That would be a bag …" Bertha, I want to know more about you! I don't need all this trivia … "It's not trivia! I-it's … tradition! Yes! There are traditional weaving styles!"

"Yes, passed down through oral tradition through the generations, keeping the past alive!" Oh, that's something interesting. Are you using a traditional style? "No!" … "E-Ella Fitzgerald …" Bertha! "Okay, I get it! I just can't make my hobby seem interesting! It's just a boring hobby for boring old Bertha …" H-hey, don't say that. A hobby is something you enjoy. It's not meant to impress people.

There are lots of reasons to enjoy something. It can be something completely new or something extremely comfortable. Something you're alreayd good at, or something that gives you room for improvement. It can make you feel excited or enriched or … even a little guilty. All that really matters is that you enjoy it and it adds to your life. At least that's what I think. "You don't think it's boring?"

Do you think basket weaving is boring? "Me? Well, of course not … uh, well, maybe a little. But in a good way! It's very relaxing. And it gives my hands something to do when I'm reading and watching a video. Oh, and they're great to decorate with! And people love them as gifts. The handmade touch just makes it more … meaningful, I guess." See? There you go. That doesn't sound boring at all!

"Wow, thanks! I guess I shouldn't have tried so hard to impress you, huh. Do you have any hobbies." Yeah. I draw portraits. "Oh. Well, that's a … very interesting hobby, isn't it …" Bertha … "Heh! I'm not giving up the baskets, but there's nothing stopping me from trying out a new hobby too! Expand my horizons. Maybe I'll give portraiture a try."

Good question, Amber! When you open your Happy Home Network terminal, there'll be an icon in the bottom right corner. Just tap it, and you can scan house QR codes with your 3DS front cameras. One you do, I'll take you right there! It, uh, doesn't always work, though. In that case, use the button just above it. That one lets you visit designs by typing in their HHN address. Hope that helped!
