Timed downloads like DQ7?

Does this game have anything that I can miss out on if I don't buy it right away, like the tablets in DQ7 that are only available for 2 weeks at a time with unique monsters and prizes? I want this game but don't really want to buy it immediately.

  • From what I've read, there are daily downloads of some kind. But I don't have a clue on the details or if there's anything unique gained from them.

  • WHAT!? I had DQVII since release, but I missed out on those things? I hate that this isn't explained. Reviews from IGN & Gamespot should dock pts for this stuff (esp when the game doesn't mention it). At least (from my understanding), FE:A d/l stuff was still available later if you were slow & methodical (& didn't access menus out of order, before they're explained), or bought it later.

  • The only thing I've seen here are streetpass related (spotpass, thank goodness, is used, too). You set up a photo you've taken, then decorated, to be sent out while you get others' pics at same time. You get items when pics are 'liked'. 3 times a day, with min 3 hrs between each send, are the conditions. Not sure if the same items will be available in 6 mos, or not, as I don't have any likes yet.

  • ^DQVII's download bar just finished going through all the Traveler's Tablets yesterday. If I had to guess, the cycle will probably start over on Thursday and go through them all again. If they do, you have a second chance to download them all. Keep an eye out at the bar in The Haven!

Darn, apparently I missed just one tablet from October, and with it, 4 monsters... and I can't get the final tombola ticket. Ugh, I hope they cycle through them again. Thanks for the info though, sounds like I wouldn't be missing much I buy DQ8 sometime later.

  • What is tne final tombola ticket (or just a tombola ticket, period)? Do you miss out on part of the game if you can't get all of the streetpass tablets? I haven't gotten that far, yet, but I'm juggling tons of console games, along with Bravely Default, FE: Fates, DQVII, & now DQVIII on 3ds, along with many other 3ds games that I play less frequently. I wish I had discipline to stay w a single game

You get a stamp the first time you defeat a monster in a tablet dungeon, and you get a ticket for every 6 stamps you turn in. Each ticket can win you a random prize from the old lady in the hut in Haven.

You don't really miss anything, I'm just too obsessed with trying to accomplish or collect "everything" in a game when I can. The tombola prizes aren't that amazing.

  • ^This. The DLC tablets and the prizes within don't unlock any form of significant content. It's all just for completion's sake.

    Yeahs0
  • I have always been a completionist, but GTA4 & FF13 are the last 2 games I got 100% on. Now, I am overwhelmed with my backlog, so I have to adjust or I'll never finish any of them. I like to play blindly, but that conflicts w/ completionist mentality, too. As far as the stamps, do you only get one the first time you beat an enemy (like each unique enemy gets you a stamp)? Thanks for the info.

Yeah just one per enemy. But someone else said when you get all 417 stamps, you can start collecting them again.

    Yeahs0
  • I tried to ask that in a way that answered this, but it didn't. Do you get a stamp if you happen to beat a monster that you've already beaten for a stamp (I ask because you said "first time" originally)? Or, is that not a possible circumstance (maybe those type of enemies don't appear for you once you get a stamp for them, or because it only rewards you for an initial victory)? Thanks again.

It only rewards you for the initial victory. There's just one stamp for each of the 417 monsters.

  • Ahh, ok. Thanks for the info. I still have not run into anything in DQVIII that uses street pass besides the photo shares mentioned above, so I think you are safe waiting.
