    Seeing as this is my first pt of DQ VIII (literally just bought it tonight), gonna say both until further notice. Although, most ppl say DQ VIII is the best game to start with

    4 and 5 was my first games on the ds but 7 is what made me like the series more because of the class system :)

    DQ8 has you put points toward weapon skills whenever you level up. It makes every level gained feel worthwhile (beyond the first 3) and it's great to be able to start building up your characters right away. DQ7's job system is fun but more flawed. Maribel makes a poor warrior and the hero makes a poor magic user. Why give us all those jobs when there's really only one choice to make?

    DQ7 still did a better job (with jobs) than DQ6. In DQ6 (love the story) but you can really mess up your game if you level grind at all. DQ7 lets you enter those monster tablet worlds, so you can level up your jobs no matter what your character's experience level is.

    im currently level 14 right now dragon quest in 8 the start is very difficult because alot enemies do heavy damage to your party. i would like to play dragon quest 6 and 9 on the ds but 6 is really expensive online :o

    I am still just getting into 8, but so far i am enjoying it a lot more than 7. You get into the action in 8 a lot quicker than 7. Go with 8! (or 4, 5, or 6 for the ds)

    8 on phones is still a good game, BUT it has no voice acting and is locked into portrait-mode only, which really does hurt the look of the game.
