As nice as this scenery is, I was initially too preoccupied with fighting and collecting to notice it. I wonder if this is a flaw of the game, that Yoshi's Woolly World isn't really even a world and just a skin draped over a standard action game, a backdrop pasted onto a game that, by and large, isn't suited for it.

    At the same time, I wonder whether it isn't enough that this backdrop be functional, that it tries to make you feel the way you're supposed to feel, regardless of whether the effect is conscious or subconscious. Wasn't that what the original Yoshi's Island did so well? In that regard, I suppose the yarn aesthetic is very effective. I'd rather be playing the game this way than any other.

    Though this means admitting that the yarn aesthetic was never the focus of the game any more than the hand-drawn aesthetic was the focus of Yoshi's Island. I guess that's where it gets misleading. What's this game called again? But it certainly completes the game in the same way. This game is more worthy of the title "Yoshi's New Island" than Yoshi's New Island!
