Tips to get into comp. Battling?

I want to try to get into competitive battling. I get IVs and EVs and know what both are and how to get 6 IV Pokémon and do EV training. Er... There's a lot more to it, it seems. Any suggestions?

  • decide what pokemon you want to use, you'll have an easier time if you choose mostly from OU and UU, lower tier pokemon require a lot more experience to use well research the best ways to use them (what natures, EV spreads, moves and items they should have) try to use pokemon that work well together, like tapu koko+alolan raichu

  • then research common pokemon (basically everything in OU and UU) and what their common sets are, as well as their base stats (so you can judge what opponent's will be capable of) look up ''pokemon showdown damage calculator'' it's an incredibly useful tool that will let you see exactly how much you and your opponent may do to eachother, as well as help in deciding your sets

  • Funnily enough I already use both the damage calculator and Koko + Alolan Raichu mix, but I'vw never used them too efficiently. So... Should I just think about OU/UU strategies and try them out on Showdown?

  • I've never used showdown, but it'd probably be good for testing stuff out before trying it for real Also, one of the most important things is to predict the opponent, you need to use knowledge of their team, their team's sets and stats, your team, and what the opponent may think of your team to figure out what they may do

  • It's all based on predictions in competitive battling, basically trying to counter your opponents every move
