issues with playing with toys being a Taboo for him as the Subspace Emissary would portray was years off, you know too young for those issues with toys being not seen as normal to even be a problem but not old enough for big boy toy action figures that he gets later in Smash 64, you know the back of boxes and things labelling the appropriate age and up to be allowed to play with those toys maybe

Ness and Captain Falcon toy in Smash 64 despite the Earthbound/Mother series and F-Zero series not really having merchandise until years after Smash 64 and no one ever said the Nintendo console in the child's timeline came out around the same time as in our own in reality.
