    if you save when your near lillie and then start walking with lillie to iki town and hala comes and gives you a starter out of the 3 starters if you dont get a Shiny starter press L R Start to soft reset your game.

    Save just before you get the chance to select your starter, then pick your starter. When you check its summary, if it is not shiny, press L+R+Start to reset and try again. In this game, you have to save before rescuing Nebby from the Spearow, and you have to watch 2-3 minutes of cutscenes every time. Or just breed for it. It's much faster, especially with Masuda Method and Shiny Charm

    1.Soft reset at the beginning until you see in the screen where you are asked to name it that it is shiny 2. Breed one via Masuda method 3. Trade with somebody who is willing to give one

    You either breed them until you eventually get a shiny one, or soft-reset at the beginning when you choose your starter until you get a shiny one. Based on the fact that doing the latter is even more tedious, the first method would be 'quicker' (at least with the Shiny Charm).
