    no. THEY ARE Chaos emeralds because in the end when u collect all of them. u turn into super sonic..

    Eggman said that he once controlled time using these "emeralds", to make Little Planet his new base. The Super Sonic ability isn't in Sonic CD, just like in Sonic 1; Collect them all, and you'll get a Good Ending.

    I also didn't recognize this first time as well: While Sonic is planning on how to free his friends with the final emerald in hand, we see Dr. Eggman juggling the other six chaos emeralds. Nice nod the the bad ending of Sonic the Hedgehog 1.
