I've played the new Zelda for more than 40h and still don't know where this game is place in the timeline (please, don't tell me any spoiler). There are orni and korog characters, so it may be in the Wind Waker timeline. However the villain is Ganon (instead its human incarnation, Ganondorf), which suggest that it is placed in the A Link to the Past timeline. I guess I'll know it soon.

Maybe it is revealed after you beat the game. However, I don't want to beat Ganon yet. I've been in Hyrule castle, using stealth as a ninja. I got plenty of new weapons and collectibles, but I retreated before going to Ganon's lair. I didn't feel like it and I prefer to free the 4 giant guardin beasts and get the master sword first.

I'm enjoying the game a lot. It's a masterpiece. However, I miss pieces of heart, a memorable soundtrack and good dungeons as in previous Zeldas (sanctuaries are too short and are not the same thing). I've beaten one dungeon (I guess there are 3 left), and it was dissapointing. If only this game had 8 good dungeons as OOT had! It would be the perfect Zelda game. What do you think about the game?

well, the game has five dungeons. the divine beasts and hyrule castle. the divine beasts are pretty similar to each other, but you can approach hyrule castle and reach ganon in many ways. and the place is full of secrets... and guardians.

I know Hyrule castle, and I don't consider it as a dungeon (there are no puzzles, just guardians to use stealth). If you say that the remaining divine beasts are similar (I guessed so, but I hoped not), then I am very dissapointed about the dungeons of the game. As I said before, sanctuaries are OK, but they are different concept than dungeons (I miss the map, the compass and the big key). Too bad

Don't misunderstand me. The game is great (I consider it a masterpiece), but OOT is still the best, and Majora's Mask my favourite.

i think more or less the same. this game is great, but not the best zelda game. my favourites will always be majora's mask and wind waker. anyways, i don't know what's your view on the whole thing, but the second dlc pack for breath of the wild will have an extra dungeoon. i hope it's more traditional than the divine beasts.

I hope so too. Anyway, did you get the extended ending (requires to get back Link's memories)? If the extended ending does no help to clarify timeline issues, I'm afraid we will have to wait to DLCs. ¦-(

i haven't got it yet. but i doubt it'll clarify everything. that being said, they could still reveal it's timeline placement in an interview. they already did that at other times

I think the same. It's quite suspicious that they haven't said anything about it. That's what made me think that it has something to do with the DLCs, though.

i think the dlc could be a prequel to the game, actually. it wouldn't be the first time they do something like that (operation anchorage in fallout 3 and shovel knight specter of torment, per example). but that's just my personal theory. it could be anything.

Actually both can be right, provided that the prequel can give important information about the position of the game in the timeline. Which setting would you prefer for a prequel DLC? It could be 100 years before (when this Link was almost defeated) or 10000 years before, with other incarnations of Link and Zelda (when the guardians and the divine beasts were made).

both settings would be fine. i'd particularly like to see ganondorf becoming the monstrosity he is in the game itself, so maybe 10.000 years before. but seeing link's exploits 100 years before would be cool too. by the way, i got the true ending. not a single hint, but it's a beautiful ending regardless.

Yeah, I prefer that setting too. Actually, I don't like very much the idea of playing a story in which Link is defeated and must retreat.

I see that you think that this game is set in the Wind Waker timeline (I also think that it is the most likely), considering that there are orni and korogs. However, Sheikah were apparently extinct in Wind Waker, zoras have become orni and Ganondorf is not known to have become Ganon in that timeline. The game could be set in the same timeline than A Link to the Past, in which Ganon already exists.

It seems that the changes to the timeline that you have herad about are not related to this game, but to the release of a book, titled 'Hyrule Encyclopedia' (only in Japan). It seems that there is a retcon in the classic timeline: -Previously: ALttP-Oracles-LA (same incarnation of Link). -Retconned: ALttP-LA----Oracles (same Link for the first two, another incarnation of Link for the Oracles).

However, the book is not entirely official. It has been written by Nintendo Dream magazine, with some support from Nintendo. The change I told you was made to correct the inconsistency in which Link and Zelda do not know each other when they first meet in the Oracles duology (therefore, Zelda and Link are not the characters that appeared in ALttP).
