  • I'd say Mario is the most iconic franchise and the epitome of platform gaming. However Zelda has Botw, Ocarina of Time, Skyward Sword, A link to the Past, Majoras Mask, Wind Waker and A link Between Worlds..all of which are amongst the highest rated games of all time according to Metacritic, but Mario lifetime sales are way higher than Zeldas!

  • By sales, recognition & just overall brand awareness, without a doubt Mario. Personal favorite....that's a tough decision between Zelda or Metroid...but it's Zelda (my 1&2 spot of favorite games of all time are held by Zelda games) Honorable mentions: Phantasy Star, Monster Hunter, Castlevania & brace yourselves.....The Conduit!

  • @Emo-Chan, Metal Gear is one of the most long standing franchises it's definitely amongst the greats! @Frank..Mario is likely the most accessible and longstanding series, its what introduces a ton of us to gaming in general. Interesting note..Tetris is actually the highest selling title ever. Minecraft is up there as well

  • @ Mossy..its a tough call when it comes to your personal favourites..I'd say Mario, Zelda and Metroid are my top 3 favs...if I had to pick I think Zelda would get the edge for me. Another series I didn't mention would be Pokemon...the craze that was Pokemon Go was never before seen. That is one franchise with a ridiculous following!

  • ATM my favorite is Megami Tensei. You may not know it, but the original Megami Tensei is practically the father of creature capturing RPGs. Released in 1985 before Pokemon was even concieved.

  • You have to wonder how much longer we'll see brick and mortar video game stores. It happen to the Blockbuster's of the world and video games are in an even smaller niche market. It would be weird not having any physical video game stores around. I guess as long as there are physical copies and hardware consoles you'd think they'll still be around.

  • Man I hope they don't close our towns GameStop. I know as a chain they aren't looked on that fondly by gamers & some of the governing policy's are sorta suspect, but the people at our store are just good, honest folks who aren't biased over brands & they are knowledgeable to boot! I've known the guy who manages it since back before the Wii when he was just an associate. The stores just a nice

  • place to go....primarily because of the people there. I'm CERTAIN they do a good business, but much like our JC Penny that will be closing; good business & steady foot traffic in a small population center sometimes isn't enough. You could have half the town show up & support the store; it still wouldn't match big city numbers

  • I don't think the industry is ready to do away gaming stores. They're still major sources of revenue and advertising plus they can gauge consumer interest through store traffic/pre orders. Microsoft could still use their own stores and Sony likely has a few stores hanging around , Nintendo would have to really rely on the Walmarts/Targets of the world as they have almost no retail presence
