  Fight a lot of monsters and stay close to town at first. Try to avoid fighting monsters in dungeons as you make your way to the boss. Buy a boomerang as soon as you can at the start of the game. It helps while it's only the Hero and Yangus. Always put most of the Hero's skill points into Courage when he levels up. If your whole group dies you lose half your money. Save often.

  Gamesake basically said all you need to know, but keep in mind this is about getting through a story. It's important to talk to townspeople to get hints about what you need to do. Explore every building and look for jars and barrels because some of them have one-time items in them. Talk to your party for what to do. Leave questions here if you get stuck.
