E3 2017: WHICH COMPANY HAS THE MOST AT STAKE?

Nintendo needs E3 to prove Switch is in fact a viable hybrid console. Sony needs E3 to maintain momentum and increase VR interest. MS needs Scorpio to reaffirm their position. Who do you think has the most to lose??

  • No chord on the PS4 at least, SD. It works off of bluetooth

  • The USB cable is actually a cable hub & its so you can plug in the PS4 controller you don't use in for authentication purposes. Mine just sits on the shelf next to the PS4 then while I use whatever. Chords do come into play if you want to use a mic though....you have to string one from the PS4 or the better option just use wireless headphones & go off of the second USB port

  • I don't think your Xbox controller itself will need anything directly attached to it....I've never hooked up an Xbox controller to it though. there's something that looks like a flash drive with a signal Reciever built into it & thats all my Nintendo stuff (Wii U controllers/pro controller & Wii Mote/chuck) uses. You have to buy the USB multi hub supermarket. I got one for 4 bucks. Has a short

  • lol....supermarket should be aftermarket) chord that's under a foot long. I just plug that into the first USB port on the 4, then plug my PS4 controller into the hub. Not chordless exactly but it's not like what I'm using has chords dropped across the room & in the way.

  • I was surprised when I found I liked the PS4 controller way more than the standard Xbox One controller, when I'd previously preferred the 360's controller over PS3's. Just moving the sticks apart so my thumbs don't knock into each other was all that was needed, and it only took them 20 years to figure this out. The touchpad is plain stupid though.

  • I think we're in a generation where every manufacturer finally "gets" controller design, even Nintendo, mostly. The Switch's pro controller is lacking pressure-sensitive triggers, but apart from that it's the most comfortable standard controller Nintendo has made, with the most features, since the Gamecube controller. Now the joy-cons are another story.

  • Nintendo has to be loud and clear that they are fixing the left joy-con connectivity issue in future production models of the Switch, and they need to let consumers know well before E3. This is a manufacturing defect (antenna is too short and in the wrong place) and I hope they offer some kind of limited exchange program where early-adopters can get a working replacement.

  • I think they did announce they'd corrected some manufacturing issue with the left joy con so hopefully it won't affect future adopters. Usually Nintendo hardware is built well and made to last so I have faith they'll correct the issue. I don't even think they'll address it at E3 as it will only confirm the widespread accounts and warrant a massive recall.

  • Yikes!! An additional pair of JoyCon controllers is $99.99 in Canada, yes you can argue its technically 2 controllers you're getting but its clear..Nintendo believes Nintendo is the richest country in the world! Not sure what the prices are down south but for example Botw is about $80 up north. Switch is quickly becoming Nintendo's most expensive console.

  • Switch was $300 USD at launch which is the same as the white Wii U at launch. The deluxe (black) Wii U was $350 USD but both these prices dropped quickly. I paid about $300 IIRC for the deluxe less than a year after release, and not part of any sale. MSRP for L/R joycons in US is $80, but I just found them on Amazon for $68.98, I doubt retailers will be sticking to MSRP.

  • $300 + $100 for BotW special edition + $70 for a pro controller + sales tax and I've spent over $500 on the Switch. While the console price on its own is comparable to past Nintendo consoles, the accessories put the price point much higher, and Nintendo is charging $10 more for the pro controller than Sony and MS do for their standard controllers, though you can argue MEMS and IR tech cost more.

  • Interestingly, I've read that the sell-through rate reported by retailers is very high, meaning almost everyone who buys the Switch is also buying a physical copy of a game, a pro controller, and some kind of case or other accessory. This was not how retailers described PS4 or Xbox One sales and indicates a very motivated consumer demographic thanks to good advertising and a recovering economy.

  • btw RAINZ, remember that the US dollar has more value than the Canadian dollar. They were about even around the 2009 recession, but the USD has since recovered. You might actually be getting a better deal on the Joy-Cons. If adjusted with no other parameters than exchange rate (1.00 USD to 1.33 CAD), you ought to be paying $106.40 per pair. Just thought that was interesting.

  • @Clouvas, completely aware of our dollar on the exchange. It's just crazy to think a standard controller can cost $100 these days. Even the games are getting up there in price. You have to wonder if Scorpio games will come with a premium over its Xbone counterparts. Gaming ain't a cheap hobby!

  • I speculate that the growing market of pre-owned games, consoles, and accessories has given incentive for companies to start charging a little more and targeting consumers willing to spend more. Each company is also branching out into other areas to produce more product and make more money (VR, AR, amiibo, specialty controllers, "pro" consoles"), possibly to offset shrinking profit margins.

  • But yeah, controllers in particular are expensive nowadays, like more than twice the price we paid 10-20 years ago for standard controllers. But they have more tech packed in them and they last longer (I have 4 N64 controllers with barely functional thumbsticks and 2 PS2 controllers that just plain don't work). Don't know about Scorpio games having a premium, that could be disastrous.
