    Yes, i work in convenience and i've seen people spend 50 to 100 dollars on lottery stuff weekly, i guarantee you they would have more money if they just saved up.

    @P.Garvey: Nothing specific. I just believe that greed, like a weapon, isn't good or evil in itself, but the wielder can use it for either. Everybody wants things. I guess whether such desires should be considered good or bad depends on whether they hurt people or not.

    Yes. It's the whole basis of capitalism. You look at places that don't allow humans to take entrepreneurial risks (motivated in part, or in full, by greed), and you'll find those places have poor development.
