Why does Nintendo separate regions?

What I mean is that I can only type in English, Spanish, French and Portuguese (I want Japanese!), and I can only play games that are MY region. When Flipnote Hatena used to be around, you are only allowed to watch flipnotes that are YOUR region. What's with that?

  • So you don't end up changing everything all to Japanese for yourself because that's just weird. Also, there are WAY too many otakus these days. Nintendo did it for our own good. Also you don't know Japanese so what's the point of getting a Japanese game?
