Battle worthy Pokémon

Hi, this is my first Pokémon game and I'm approaching end story wise and I would like some advice on how to raise (preferably from eggs) battle worthy Pokémon? as I see after the story is finished the empasis is on battling. Thank you for any advice you can give to a novice.

  • For breeding pokemon, you will want a few things. A destiny knot, an everstone, and the ability to judge pokemon. A destiny knot can be gotten in 2 ways, either buy it for 48bp at the battle dome, or get it with the pickup ability. The destiny knot transfers IV's from the parent, which makes your pokemon's stats better. To be continued.

  • An everstone transfers the nature of the parent who is holding it, which if the nature is helpful, it further boosts your pokemon's stats. The judge ability can be gotten after hatching 20 eggs, and then talking to the man outside the battle tree. This helps so you can always have the best chance of getting perfect Iv's, by switching out the worse Iv parent for the child, who has better Iv's.

  • For training pokemon, isle evelup is a great starting place! After a 99hr 30 min session, most pokemon get to be about lvl 40, or if you don't want to wait, take them with you to the elite 4, with the exp share on.

  • You forgot about EVs.

  • Thank you all the great info! Lots to think about which is great in terms of how many hours I will still have to put in once story is finished.

  • I forgot about Ev's. Ev's are important for competitive, and they are actually effort values. These effort values add one additional stat point for every 4 ev's in that category. You can have a maximum of i think 252 ev's in 2 categories, with 4 ev's to a third category, and they can be obtained by defeating any pokemon, or again, by using isle evelup and giving them a corresponding drink.
