    granted but perception is flawed the right to be understood is even more important and recognizing intent is a key component to tactful communication. "sovereignty of interpretation" is basically a title and can refer to a million things but, that's my first response when I read it...I feel like I've been accused of failing to respect this before, though. lol.

    Thank you for your thoughts. I'm happy if anyone comments on posts like this ;) Problem is: I'm not sure if this is the correct translation of the word I mean: Deutungshoheit. I found sovereignty of interpretation and prerogative of interpretation. Deutungshoheit is the right/authority to interpret/say how things are/are made.

    well, I wasn't so off base In my comment, I assumed "sovereignty" meant "one's right." Sovereign implies (to me, at least) that you're alluding to something more substantial than the nature of personal disagreements.

    Wow. Thanks. I use several dictionaries to look up words/phrases when I'm not sure of the correct meaning/undertone/connotation. Yes, sovereignty can be a right to do something but it's also autonomy etc.

    I admit that “sovereignty of interpretation” is kind of abstract and this post is an abstract and not very concrete statement. But when I realized that you can find this everywhere, even in everyday communication, it was interesting and helpful.
