Nintendo via Regi Fils-Aime has said the reason why the Nintendo Switch doesn't have an internet browser, a YouTube app, a Netflix, Hulu or Amazon streaming service app is that right now "that is not how we are going to distinguish ourselves from others"! He also said it is the games & new play experiences is what will distinguish Nintendo from others! Do you agree with him or is Nintendo cheap?

@Lex - Nintendo certain was competing with Apple & Apple has been kicking their behind! It was because of the emergence of Smartdevices such as the iPod, iPhone & iPad that Nintendo started losing ground in the handheld market overall. It was because of Apple that Nintendo started the DSi & Wii Shops & added cameras & Mics to their devices as well!

@Lex - It is because of Apple that the Switch is now using a multi-touch touch screen, the reason why Nintendo has reorganised their R&D departments & rolled their "console" & "handheld" departments into one as they will never again be using two seperate CPUs or graphic chip families in their different devices & are following the direction Apple took with their devices!

@Lex - It is because of Apple as well that Nintendo FINALLY changed their digital download policy for the Switch to link your downloads to your account now & not the console because that is Apple's policy with their devices! Because of this what you download now on the Switch can be redownloaded on & will also work on the "mini-switch" when it comes out!

@Lex - Nintendo has already started unifying their e-shop like iTunes by linking the 3DS, Wii U's & Switch's e-Shop's "wallets" to share money smongst all 3 devices! If you haven't realized Nintendo's downfall & influence from Apple over the years, I don't know where you've been! It's to the extent now they are basically working WITH Apple when it comes to the Switch & offering Smartphone apps!

@Gamesake - Thinking like that Gamesake or making excuses for Nintendo's mistakes is what gets Nintendo in trouble! I know they couldn't fit everything into the Switch to keep costs down but the Switch is also now one of the few if not the only handheld electronic devices these days that don't have a camera & a mic as standard! Streetpass was a very good option! I get Streetpasses often when out!

@Gamesake - I mean just by passing by people randomly. Streetpass not only works at McDonalds but Best Buy, Home Depot & Airports.. it also used to work at Starbucks but I don't think they are a partner anymore & it doesn't work at all McDonalds anymore for me either! As for drawing, I don't really use the 3DS/Wii U for it much but if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't go out of my way for better!

@Gamesake - As for having a problem with the Gamepad limiting what you can do with the system.. well I haven't had a problem with my Gamepad & the same thing can be said about the Switch except in the Switch's case.. if anything is wrong with the tablet, you have to be without your entire system to get it fixed & can't do *anything*! There are pluses for the Switch but there's negatives too!

George, 1) Get a smart phone man, it's 2017 and even homeless people have one. 2) Stop torturing your family/friends with awful and grainy or cheesy 3D photos taken on your 3DS. You can get a 20 megapixel point and shoot camera for the price of a 3DS. 3) By your logic Nintendo is also competing with Samsung, HP, Dell, etc. which Nintendo is not. 4) Capacitive touchscreen is cost efficient enough

now i.e. cheap for Nintendo to use. It was cheap in 2004, pretty sure Nintendo would have used it on the DS when they started touch screen gaming. 5) As for unifying accounts, that's just the natural progression of online shopping man. 6) Switch mini is just what one analyst predicts. It's not a real thing and how is it going to work? Smaller joycons? Smaller battery with even less playing time?

Non detachable joycons? Which would defeat the purpose of the Switch. Just saying man. 6)3DS is 6yrs old. Nintendo is busting out the end of life cycle Kirby games. If Pokemon and Monster Hunter are revealed at E3, that's it for the 3DS. Writing is on the wall. Gamefreak is hiring programmers to work on a console "globally popular rpg."

Even if Nintendo isn't trying to compete with Apple, they should at least be competing with Sony and Microsoft in the console business. Keep in mind that the PS5 and next XBOX platforms haven't even been announced yet, so unless Nintendo play their cards right, they may end up like SEGA with the Dreamcast.

You can't better yourself by defending the bad; you better yourself by learning from the bad. Even if you like the Switch, you can still suggest some things that can make it even better: adding a touchscreen that's been a thing since the DS, StreetPass, force feedback, a microphone, etc. That's what Sony did with the Vita - they improved on the PSP in so many ways making it hard to go back to.

@Lex - In order for me to currently get a Smartphone with all the systems I am supporting, I'd have to take my Donky Kong Bongos downtown on the corner & beat out some tunes for change! :-) ♪"All the.. small things..."♪ :-) Surprisingly enough some of the 3D photos I have taken with the 3DS came out very good! I even uploaded some from the 3DS & DSi to Facebook & used them as my profile picture!

@Lex - If that 3DS 3D Photo website on the web was still working right I'd tell you to go there & view some of my photos on computer but it wasn't working right the last time I checked awhile back! I do have another older digital camera but even that is lame by today's standards but it is still good for SD pictures & video! I do need to upgrade in that department!

@Lex - Nintendo sort of is competing with other companies such as Samsung.. any company that puts out a handheld smart device has been taking ground away from Nintendo! When 3-5 year olds are holding Smartphones & tablets these days & not a Nintendo handheld.. it is a problem for Nintendo! As for Capacitive touchscreens as far back as the DS, no, they wouldn't have done it because they wanted..

...drawing capabilities which Capacitive touch screens are not good for but you CAN get a special stylus to make it work! Thus why no stylus with the Switch either thus no focus on drawing! Another downfall. The Switch mini is happening.. not one analyst predicting it.. directly coming from the mouth of Mr. Kimishima over 2 months ago in a Time interview! Also re-read some of what I said above..

...Nintendo will be using the same family of CPUs & GPUs in their console & handheld devices going forward making them fully compatible with each other! Yes, in mini-Switch... smaller controllers, smaller screen so battery life should be same (3+ hours) but no, the controllers won't be detachable but still use same game cards & digital downloads! It makes sense!

@Lex - Satoru Iwata & Nintendo wanted the Switch to "run along side the 3DS & Wii U" & so far that is happening with the only exception being they stopped making Wii U's & no more first party support commercially on Wii U. The 3DS & Wii U still have life in them yet! Yes, Gamefreak is hiring for another Pokemon RPG on the Switch & sales boom again! :-)

@Goodboy! - Nintendo is not fully competing with Sony & Microsoft in the console business anymore otherwise the Switch would have had 8 GB of memory & it wouldn't be passed over by so many AAA developers with their new games that the Switch can't handle! PS 5 is not announced but XBOX "Scorpio" is coming in the fall (4k graphics & VR/AR ready)!

@Goodboy! - The stuff Nintendo left out of the Switch could be added back in with the Mini-Switch if they were smart (camera, mic, streetpass, single touch touchscreens, stylus etc.) @All - Thanks for the comments on this thread & it lasting so long! I think you all deserve a follow eventually after this! If you guys can't fully comment here, I'll make another post soon continuing about Apple!
