This game would be so much better without the akward controls. Please don't let this happen to the next Star Fox game, which is likely to be on the Switch.

All you need to do is get used to looking at the gamepad and looking at things from the cockpit POV. Not to mention getting used to moving the gamepad around a lot. I would recommend playing Splatoon for moving around a lot, Super Smash Bros for Wii U for looking at the gamepad, and Star Fox 64 for getting used to the cockpit POV. Also, to switch to cockpit view in SF64, press up on the D-pad.

I agree, and for a while I was used to it, back when I played it a lot. But in the end, the amount of time it takes is almost not worth it. I like using two screens in games, and I use it a lot in MK8. But, I never use the gamepad as a controller, because it just feels too heavy for a controller. It reminds me of holding a rock. I just find it far more easy to use a third party pro controller.
