I dunno

I'm starting to wonder what I want to do in the future. I mean I've been wanting to be an animator or something like that, but with how my hobbies are lately, I doubt it'll happen. I don't usually spend my free time animating. Usually I play games, watch videos, or draw.

Now, if THAT'S the kind of tutoring I were to end up with in college, then I'm probably better off as I already am with my current, unfruitful approach at self-education. In the meantime, I've been writing Zelda fanfiction as a method to practice »

But I'm finding that my specialty lies more in PLANNING stories rather than actually writing them. I can think up good plots, but putting into words is another thing entirely. I'm thinking it'll probably be an entire DECADE before I get the fanfic I'm »

If I had known that, I probably wouldn't have even started it in the first place, but it's a little late to back out of it now that I've been uploading it online. ...Okay, I'm probably rambling too much here. I'll shut up now. But basically, I can relate with what you're going through. It's quite an obstacle.

I really wanna do game design, but I don't think the high school I'll start on this year is going to satisfy that need too well, and I have been told that if I wanna make games, I should really get a better math grade, but that is the one subject in school that I despise.

  • mmm, same thing here, I have no idea what would do with my future, heck, I don't have an idea, have a plan/goal, but no "work plan" -o-' There's ppl who can help with choosing what job u might do, one thing almost all my teachers repeat and them is finding a job we like first time is really rare. Like we might go to school more than we thing before finding we LOVE to do, a job we like to do so --

  • -- that waking up isn't a pain (like for mine). I also fully agrees with what GG said, doing something we're passionate is a good way. One alterative, maybeeeee, is like finding a job so can "survive" and spend lots of time on what u actually likes to do, like playing games/drawing/or even some animation, can get better with practice :3

  • I have no idea what I want to do for a career either, and anything that grabs my interest even remotely, I know I can’t do full time due to my health (or lack thereof). That makes doing pretty much anything in the hard sciences impossible. Something like that is what I’ve been wanting to do for practically my whole life. Not to mention that there are three generations of women in my family who

  • have gone into the medical profession specifically, which something I find fascinating, and is perhaps why Black Jack is in my top three favorite manga of all time. Despite the fact that the operations are conducted in a manner vastly different from today, it’s still really interesting to see the detailed procedures, even if a some are unrealistic. It’s too bad they’re never shown in the anime. :/

  • Anyway, I know I’ll never be able to do any sort of “dream career” or even something I love to do, unless I can miraculously become a beta tester for a video games, but it’s not like that will ever happen. I guess I have photography to fall back on since it’s one of my few “skills” but IDK how to make a living off of that. I’m attending community college to see if anything grabs my interest and

  • seems feasible with my physical abilities. I’ve had multiple friends who’ve gone to universities (as a matter of fact, one even went to a college that had connections to Pixar to become an animator, and dang, she REALLY had the skills for it) but she and my other few friends really didn’t like universities and left to attend community college until they need to return to finish out their degrees.

  • They say they find community college classes much more enjoyable and educational (not to mention ridiculously cheaper) than universities. I’ve used Rate My Professor to find instructors that are actually good at teaching, and so far I haven’t been let down since the class sizes are small and the instructors get to know the students and can work with them on a more personal level than universities.

  • I think that in general, this generation is going off in a completely different direction as past ones when it comes to careers. Nothing seems as concrete. There’s really no more traditional apprenticeships and the job market is so unpredictable that if you study for one thing that you're interested in and is in high demand, by the time you can enter that field, it’ll be obsolete. I feel we’re all

  • part of that “awkward in between” generation where society is trying to figure out how to deal with us, and us with it. The internet and advancement of technology as well are partially to blame. They're a double edged sword. Ugh. Sorry. Nothing I said was remotely positive or motivational… But hey, it seems everyone here is sort of in the same boat, so you’re not alone. Hopefully things will work

  • hey, i just wanted to add my experience. i had NEVER coded ever, but with the introduction course, i've found i really really love it! i even think im going towards game design. don't let the fact you haven't done it keep you from trying! maybe look for colleges that have an intro course. and yeah, actually look up videos in stuff you want to do.

  • Hm. You honestly want to go the route of animation, then? Well, you have half the battle covered. The other half, with time, research, and due diligence, you can undoubtedly figure out. Perhaps you are aware of a lady under the name Camila Cuevas? Look her up. I think what she does would be a good starting point. Talk to her, if you can. She won't bite.

  • Let me also tell you of a Belgian man of the alias "Hergé". He created an internationally adored character named Tintin about a century ago, and without any professional art training to boot. Before the internet even existed, he got paid to do something he just happened to be good at. Point is, you have the power, but at the same time, don't be afraid to seek help from others like you.

  • Oh, and Anju: You know what I tell myself when I do horribly at calculus? "You're gonna have to try a little harder than THAT." Excuse the Undertale trash, it'll take itself out. X3
