Fidget Spinners, and why they're suddenly popular

According to my friend, fidget spinners were made about a year ago. If so, why are they suddenly so popular at my school? All I hear nowadays is fidget spinner, fidget spinner, cool fidget spinner, can i see your fidget spinner, FIDGET SPINNER FIDGET SPINNER!!! Can you guys please tell me why?
