Sega's "Road to 2020" Plans
So yesterday, Sega officially revealed their plans for the future of both the company and its games. They had some business ideas that included details about what they plan on doing with both their retail and digital offerings from here going forward. In their plans, they also expressed "interest" in bringing some of their old IP's back to the modern era of gaming.

I put the air-quotes in the word "interest" because even though I want them to bring their old classics back, I'm pretty much at the point, right now with Sega that when they say stuff like this, I'll believe it when I see it.

Now I do believe that they can bring their old classics back to the modern era (and no, taking old classic games from back in the day and rereleasing them on modern day systems does not count) but I just don't have as much trust in them, these days. If Sega really wants me to be excited about their future going forward and wants us fans to support them, then they have to do their part first.

They have to show that they actually do care about their fanbase and most importantly, their massive IP catalog that made them a big powerhouse within the gaming industry. The main reason why I feel this way about them is because the last time they promised to win our trust back, they didn't even do anything.

Before the Tokyo Game Show in 2015 happened, Sega's CEO had an interview and he actually admitted that Sega betrayed their longtime fans and wanted to make it up to us by announcing something big at TGS 2015.

But when the day finally came, all Sega did was just reveal two entries in the Yakuza series, which I'm pretty sure are good games that anyone might be willing to try out, but I'm also sure that not many people know about the franchise because Sega themselves never advertise the games they make, outside of Sonic.

Which is also another problem that they've been dealing with. Outside of Sonic, they mainly focus on just two video game franchises when it comes to consoles, which are the Yakuza series and the Hatsune Miku series. But when a new installment is about to come out, they don't even bother advertising it on TV for people who don't know about it, but could be interested if it's to their liking.

Heck, they didn't even bother making a commercial for Puyo Puyo Tetris, which was the latest game that they released for consoles, just recently. If you want your games to sell well and you want more people to know about them, they why don't you inform more people about it, besides just advertising said game online.

And another thing that I would like to point out is releasing games in certain regions of the world and even though you guys know (at least I hope that you guys know) that a lot of people would like to see an official release in whatever region that people are clamoring for, you don't do it. Obviously, Phantasy Star Online 2 is the game that I'm talking about with this scenario.

Fans want to give you guys money, but you don't want to take it. Sega, is it too much trouble to ask to just be Sega again? I'm not talking about hardware here, just software. I'm not saying that you need to make over 100 games, all dealing with your existing IP's, but seriously you guys have the money and I'm hoping you have the talent, so just go through it.

I'm tired of hearing promises not be fulfilled, I'm tired of seeing you guys not doing much of anything regarding their old classics despite the fact that you said multiple times that we are or we are considering. You showed that you're still capable of making not only a decent number of games, but great games despite what system you're making said games on.

No more excuses, Sega. If you say that we are planning or we are considering or we are thinking about bringing this franchise back in a way that both fans and hardcore gamers will love or anything of that nature, then JUST DO IT!

You'll always be my favorite third-party company, Sega. I know that you guys have it in you and that you are still capable of greatness, but here's one question that I have for you guys: Are you actually going to keep your word, do all of these things, and make us gamers and longtime fans happy or will all of us just have to Keep Dreaming? That one day, all of this will change?

Because all I want is to see Sega become well, great again. Making some great games that are either completely new IPs or dealing with classic ones from back then, making longtime fans happy and also making new ones along the way, and that's it. Nothing else, nothing more. But that can't happen if you guys just keep doing what you're doing, nowadays.

I mean, it's really nice to hear that you guys are doing well financially in recent years, but I truly feel that if you guys just gave Sonic a break and focused on other IPs (besides Yakuza, Hatsune Miku, and any minor PC game franchise that you guys usually do stuff with), you could be seeing an even brighter future. If you're unsure about it, then just take it one step at a time.

Take it slow and work your way up. Again, I'm not saying that everyday you guys need to be hard at work on an existing franchise, but it would be nice to see a good chunk of them make a comeback for modern day game systems. Some of which are in long need of a comeback anyway. But long story short, just be great again. You know how to achieve that title, so just do it. - From a Service Games fan
