Rodea the Sky Soldier

The end at last. A suitably wistful and touching conclusion to the adventure. Though certainly flawed, this game was far, far better than much of its reception would have you believe. If only the gaming media and gamers would realize again that just because a game isn't amazing and possessed of a massive budget, that doesn't make it a bad game by default. There's a ton of great middle ground.

  • And in so many respects, this is the kind of fresh, fun, imaginative game Sega hasn't made nearly enough of in a long time, and would've absolutely become a beloved cult classic in a previous generation. There's just too much eagerness to trash lower budget and even slightly flawed games these days, especially on Nintendo hardware. This game's a blast and deserves a lot more love and appreciation.

  • Thanks again, also, NIS, for bringing this west. Keep it up with all the great Nintendo localizations lately. Keep bringing more goodness to the 3DS after Culdcept Revolt and RPG Maker FES (Plenty of RPGs and Kenka Bancho 6 still need localizing!), and keep it up on the Switch, too! A Switch version of Birthdays The Beginning would be very welcome.Lots more RPGs and other Japanese support, please.

  • It's a legitimately great game! People bagged on it for its differences from the Wii version, but the Wii U version really is a ton of fun. I didn't find nearly all the hidden ones either, but they're usually on empty-looking islands or empty areas, and just pop up when you arrive there, so you really have to explore to find them.

  • No problem! I'm not sure what to recommend, as resources go. People haven't put together comprehensive guides that I've seen, and it took me long enough to even just figure out where to go for some materials for some earlier upgrades I wasn't able to get until pretty late in the game.

  • Indeed. Got any good item farming tips?

  • There's actually a Rodea the Sky Soldier wiki you can Google, and if you go to the Machine Soldiers page, it actually lists what materials each type of enemy drops, so you can use that to find out what drops what to know what to focus on for the materials you need. Ticket Islands aren't bad for farming, either, with their growing variety of enemies as you get more islands.

  • I saw that Wiki and it is helpful. But, for instance, right now I need 45 pieces of something. If a given stage only has, at most, 8 of that enemy, and i only get the right part, say, half the time, I'd have to play that level 10+ times??? Is there a better way? Thanks again, it's cool to have someone to talk about this game with!

  • I'm not sure, kind of annoying grind may well be the only way, when you get down to it, but I'm not sure if there's any better methods. An opportunity for a speed run, I guess, to just get to where those enemies are and kill them quickly, and then rush through the rest. No problem! This game really does deserve much more love and attention than it got. Hoping PROPE makes more like it yet.
