At that point in time, basically it's ocurring the end of the world, starting on a specific location I am not going to mention because of extreme spoilers. But the "egocentric" people, agitated and stressed by the bizarre situation, they wanted to spend their rage on something they think have at least a loosely connection to the catastrophe, and of course, they blame it all to the psychic boy.

He's trying, as well as Dakota, Clemont and Jordan, to tell them from the bottom of their lungs to stop this madness, that he didn't do anything and that this is beyond pandemonium and they are having trouble passing through the large angry mob. But what else can do? Greninja would gladly start kicking two of those crazy people, but that would only cause more misunderstood labeling on poor Chris.

*Extreme hint of spoilers* In this case of the extreme targeting or even, the true origin of the baseless rumors about the boy, was created by an antagonist who's not even the main antagonist. Even though, this "main" antagonist is actually enjoying this scenery and gaving things better than expected.

Still, the main antagonist still deserves some of the guilt, for the evil influence going through the world and trying to stop the boy. Still, the origin of the fake rumours is primarily caused by this "fool" you're saying.
